The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release on the report that "U.S. sells Taiwan M109A6 turreted self-propelled howitzer." (August 5, 2021)
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (5) that the US government conducted the procedure of "notification to Congress" on August 4th regarding the US arms sales of US$750 million worth of "M109A6 turreted self-propelled howitzers" to Taiwan. The case is expected to take effect after one month.
The MND pointed out that the United States continues to provide our country with defense weapons based on the "Taiwan Relations Act" and the "Six Guarantees," which are the basis for maintaining regional stability. In this occasion, the items that the US agreed to for the arms sales should help improve the rapid response and fire support capabilities of Taiwan’s ground forces and build up our defensive capabilities. The MND would like to express its sincere gratitude to the decision of this US arms sales.
