Time: 1130 hours, November 18, 2025
The Ministry of National Defense stated today (November 18) that, during an internal screening operation conducted by the Political Warfare Bureau, suspicious behavior by a Major surnamed Yang was detected. In accordance with the national security joint defense mechanism, the case was immediately reported to the National Security Bureau, which coordinated with the Military Police Command, the Investigation Bureau, and other units for joint handling. Following rigorous evidence collection and damage control measures, the upstream illegal organization was traced and dismantled. The case was reported to the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, which directed the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to investigate. Major Yang, another active-duty service member surnamed Lü, and five other suspects surnamed Ding and others have been indicted for violations of the National Security Act and related offenses.
The Ministry of National Defense emphasized that, given the current security environment, the PRC’s infiltration and aggressive operations against Taiwan have never ceased, and it actively continues to develop organizations in Taiwan. The Ministry strongly condemns the treasonous conduct of the small number of personnel who have betrayed their oath of loyalty. The Ministry has fully implemented security investigation mechanisms for personnel handling classified information and established classified access qualification certification procedures; it continues to deepen counterintelligence education to heighten personnel security awareness; and it closely collaborates through the national security joint defense mechanism to collectively safeguard national security.
