The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release explaining the "repair and return shipment of open-type parts and accessories" in an arms sale to the Air Force (US$228 million) to Taiwan.

The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (17th) that the US government "notified Congress" on September 16, Eastern Time, regarding "the repair and return shipment of open-type parts and accessories" in an arms sale to the Air Force (US$228 million) to Taiwan. The case of the arms sale amounts to US$228 million, and will officially take effect after one month.
As pointed out by the MND, our training and reaction time in our sea-water and air-space has been squeezed and normalized as such by gray zone intrusions by the PLA, and the repair and return shipment of aircraft parts and accessories agreed to be sold by the United States should help maintain the combat readiness and availability of equipment for our various fighter aircraft.
The MND stated that the case of arms sales is based on the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances, and the United States shall continue to assist Taiwan in maintaining adequate self-defense capabilities, which is considered the basis for maintaining regional stability. The MND would like to express its sincere gratitude to the US for its decision in this arms sale.
