In response to the potential impact by Typhoon Haikui on eastern Taiwan and other areas, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) convened a control meeting at the Disaster Response Center at 14:00 today. During the meeting, the MND requested troops of the Armed Forces from all levels to closely monitor the typhoon's developments and status of potential disaster areas to prepare and minimize the impact of losses.
The MND pointed out that both the MND and 2nd Combat Zone are currently working with the Central Emergency Disaster Center (CEOC) to complete level-1 preparedness. The remaining combat zones will cooperate with each of the local governments to set up commensurable levels and assist in the implementation of various disaster prevention tasks.
The MND further stated that the current total of troops on standby for disaster prevention is about 19,000 servicemen, and there will be more than 1,300 vehicles and various equipment across 36 units ready for disaster prevention, such as AAV7 amphibious assault vehicles, rubber boats, and others. As for tasks with respect to potential disaster areas and low-lying areas, troops and machinery for immediate rescue have also been prepared. Hospitals of the Armed Forces have also organized rescue medical teams to provide medical support at any time.
The MND emphasized that it will track the route of Typhoon Haikui at all times, and implement prevention and disaster rescue in line with the safety of service personnel. The MND will work to protect the homeland with all parties to safeguard the lives and property of all nationals.
