針對媒體報導「兵役延長月底前正式公告」，國防部今(7)日表示，在強化國軍戰力、提升防衛能力目標下，現有部隊的戰力提升，是當務之急，目前也正積極準備。有關義務役役期的檢討，目前仍在跨部會研議討論。國防部邱部長接受媒體訪問，表達的是役期研討若有定案、且時間來得及，會向各界報告。
In response to media reports that "The period of extended military service will be officially announced before the end of the month," the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (7th) that it is the top priority of the Ministry to increase the combat power of existing troops, strengthen the Armed Forces, and improve our defense capabilities. As for the review of compulsory military service, it is still under discussion in inter-ministry meetings. When questioned by the media, Minister Chiu of the MND expressed that if the review of the service period is completed and sufficient time has been allocated to this matter, he will announce the details to the public.
