In response to external concerns about the progress of the research and development of wheeled armored fighting vehicles and reconnaissance vehicles of the Armament Bureau, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) has elaborated as follows:
1. Regarding the development of the 105mm wheeled armored fighting vehicle, since the contractor failed to deliver new gun barrels on time, it was fined, and its rights suspended based on the contract. In February 2021, the MND re-adopted use of active-duty armored fighting vehicles that met the needs of the Army, and the R&D evaluation of the first prototype vehicle was completed in June this year; its functional performance conformed to the specifications of the proposal by the Army. The second prototype has also been implemented according to schedule.
2. Regarding the development and research of tactical and wheeled reconnaissance vehicles, it is now being conducted in line with the combat requirements of the Army as being "light, compact, flexible, and fast". The system integration of the first prototype vehicle was completed on October 28 this year. R&D evaluation testing is due to be completed by the end of March next year, and progress in on schedule.
The MND stated that the development of the 105 mm wheeled armored fighting vehicle and tactical wheeled reconnaissance vehicle are considered important projects of indigenous defense construction, and the MND urges all media to verify information prior to publishing news stories that are not factual so they do not mislead the general public.
