The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release about the activities of CCP aircraft and vessels detected around the Taiwan Strait today (August 15, 2022)

In response to the announcement by the CCP Eastern Combat Theater Command that it will organize a multi-service joint combat readiness patrol in the sea and airspace around Taiwan, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated that a total of 30 aircraft sorties (including 15 sorties crossing the median line of the Strait) and five CCP vessel sorties were detected at 17:00. They continue to operate around the Taiwan Strait. The Armed Forces shall adopt mission aircraft, vessels, and shore-based missile systems to closely monitor the situation and respond accordingly.
The MND pointed out that it expresses not only condemnation over the CCP’s persistent release of information on military exercises as they undermine regional peace and stability, but shall remain fully in control of developments in the sea area and airspace around the Taiwan Strait. The Armed Forces will uphold the belief of “everywhere is a battlefield and training should take place all the time” and seize the opportunity to assess regular training so it can respond to national security needs appropriately.
