The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release stating that "the CCP is planning to conduct live-fire exercises around the sea and airspace of Taiwan."
In response to the CCP’s practice of holding live-fire exercises around the sea and airspace of Taiwan, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (3rd) that some exercise areas have intruded the territorial waters or adjacent areas of the Republic of China, which are irrationals acts that endanger international waterways, challenge international order, undermine the status quo of the Taiwan Strait, and compromise regional safety. The Armed Forces shall resolutely defend its national sovereignty, and are capable and confident that that it can bear the responsibility of safeguarding the territory, thus counteracting any actions that violate our national sovereignty.
The MND pointed out that the Armed Forces shall adopt joint intelligence, and surveillance and reconnaissance measures to fully understand developments and trends around the sea and airspace of the Taiwan Strait, and adhere to the rational attitude of "preparing for war, yet not seeking war, and responding to war, yet avoiding war" as well as "not escalating conflict" to closely monitor the military developments around the Taiwan Strait. Most of all, the MND urges all our nationals to support the Armed Forces in safeguarding our national sovereignty and security.
The MND emphasized the hegemonic mind-set of the CCP resorting to force to resolve differences and undermine regional peace and stability, highlighting that it does not help its international image and hurts the people on both sides of the Strait. As such, the Armed Forces will maintain close contact with regional allies, and strengthen coordination and cooperation to jointly prevent the situation from escalating and maintain regional security and peace.
