The Ministry of National Defense (MND) said today (16th) that the US government carried out the "notification of Congress" procedure on July 15, Eastern Time, on sales of "spare parts for Army vehicles, weapons, and war accessories" to Taiwan, totaling US$108 million. The deal is expected to take effect in one month.
The MND pointed out that United States will continue to assist Taiwan in maintaining sufficient self-defense capabilities based on the "Taiwan Relations Act" and the "Six Assurances", which form the basis for maintaining regional stability.
In face of expanding military threats by CCP, it is as important to maintain equipment as it is to purchase new weapons and equipment. As for the accessories needed for vehicles, weapons and war materials, the United States has agreed to a sale at this time, and they will help maintain Army vehicles and replenish depleted parts so Taiwan can meet training needs for missions to ensure combat readiness.
