Naval Command issues a press release about the incident "regarding the hard landing of a S-70C anti-submarine helicopter under the command of the Anti-submarine Aviation Group, in which an injured mechanic chief, Liu Shang-jun, was declared dead" (June 23, 2022)
Naval Command stated today (23rd) that an S-70C anti-submarine helicopter under the command of the Anti-submarine Aviation Group had to make a hard landing on June 22 while performing test flight operations. Liu Shang-jun, an injured mechanic chief, was unfortunately pronounced dead at 23:01 on June 23 following the incident despite the best efforts and medical care from the Zuoying Branch of the Kaohsiung Armed Forces Hospital, Zuoying, and professional medical teams from the Tri-Service General Hospital.
Liu Shang-jun, who served as a Master Chief Petty Officer, worked hard in combat training, performed his duties to a high standard, and served his country loyally. He was a great role model for the Navy. The Navy is most saddened by his passing and expresses its deepest condolences to his family for losing an elite serviceman. It will provide full support to the family and help handle funeral and pension matters.
