Air Force Command issues a press release explaining the situation that "a major from the Air Force was in a coma following a physical test"

In response to media reports that " a major from the Air Force was in a coma following a physical test", Air Force Command stated that the officer, whose surname is Chan, passed out following physical discomfort when he took a 5,000-meter fitness walking test at the Appraisal and Testing Center of the Air Force Academy yesterday (31st). Medical staff of the unit first conducted first-aid before he was sent to Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital for emergency treatment. The major was sadly declared dead today.

Air Force Command further stated that it will assist the family members of the deceased with funeral arrangements and expresses its profound grief and sorrow for the sudden death of a colleague. In addition, Command shall continue to strengthen the health management of officers and soldiers as well as promote education of physical well-being to prevent similar cases from recurring.
