Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports stating that "the micro-class missile assault boats projects has been withdrawn so NT$200 million has been spent without results" (August 9, 2021)
In response to media reports that "the micro-class missile assault boats projects has been withdrawn so NT$200 million has been spent without results", Navy Command stated today (9th) that a simulation vehicle test was completed in 2020. As indicated from the test and evaluation results, the boat is relatively smaller so it is more liable to impact from weather and sea conditions which may also impact the stability of missile launches. Hence, it did not meet the operation needs of the Navy. To avoid needless military investment, the Navy had closed the case following approval of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) after explaining the situation to Legislative Yuan.
The contract design results of this case can be used as a reference for subsequent newly modeled ship designs of the Navy to avoid budget waste. The Navy has based its decision on guidance following joint combat strength planning from the MND to strengthen combat power, and will acquire subsequent vessels such as the Tuo River class corvette and mobile missile vehicles from the military to effectively conduct defensive combat missions.
