Naval Fleet Command issues a press release following statements about an "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) landing in the coastal waters of Taimali, Taitung" (May 21,201)
Naval Fleet Command stated today (21st) that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Naval Maritime Tactical Reconnaissance Group took off from the training field of Taimali, Taitung, at 07.27 today to conduct general maritime reconnaissance missions. However, the operator found the flight bearing of the aircraft to be abnormal at 07.31 with the danger of crashing. To avoid endangering the safety of homes onland, the operator guided the drone to the coastal waters of Taimali Township in Taitung where it landed at 07.35.
Navy Fleet Command further states that the UAV is considered a consumable, and Command has, to be on the safe side, worked with technicians of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science & Technology to investigate the cause the incident to ensure the equipment is in good working condition.
