Press release by Army Logistics Command

1550 hour, May 4, 2021

Army Logistic Command: The labeling of pork chops complies with current regulations, with zero clenbuterol detected, so that food safety can be upheld and safeguarded.

In response to media reports that "the place of origin label on the outer-box of pork chops says Taiwan while the inner packaging says the United States", Army Logistics Command states today (4th) that the purchased items referred to in the report are processed pork products, and its labeling complies with the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Command would also like to clarify that the sampling test for any clenbuterol indicated "not detected".

Command points out that the raw materials from the contract in this case can be imported from abroad and then sold after processing. In addition, contract revisions were completed this year (2021) to ensure the safety of military servicemen. The drug "Ractopamine" was added as a mandatory examination item and the result of the examination must state "not detected." Command had sent a sample to an impartial inspection agency certified by the country in March, and the examination results for clenbuterol stated "not detected".

Army Logistics Command emphasizes that the product has made use of imported raw materials, which were then processed and sold. The inner and outer packaging labels are fully compliant with the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration regulations of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Besides, Command has clearly indicated this on the non-staple food order system to facilitate all units purchases, and will continue to send samples for examination in accordance with the contract to ensure the food safety of the officers and soldiers of our Armed Forces.
