Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports stating that "a man from the mainland smuggled himself ashore on a rubber dinghy" (May 3, 2021)

In response to media reports that "a man from the mainland smuggled himself ashore on a rubber dinghy", Navy Command offers the following clarification today (3rd):

  1. During normal operations, the Navy makes use of shore-based radar stations, recon aircraft, and cruisers in various areas in combination with various identification systems for joint intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance so that it can grasp and master the whereabouts and trends of aircraft and vessels in our maritime response zone.
  2. Maritime targets are classified into three levels, and they are respectively controlled and manipulated by the Navy, Coastal Guard Patrol, and Shore Patrol. In view of the targets such as rubber boats and bamboo rafts that are hard to spot and identify as they're relatively small for a radar to pick up, the Navy will work with the Coast Guard Administration to discuss measures to handle such situations so we can continue to closely monitor our surrounding waters.
