Naval Command issues a press release to clarify media reports stating that "the prospect for Indigenous Defense Submarine, IDS does not look good, and experts call on the military to acquire Oyashio-class submarine." (April 23, 2021)
In response to media reports that "the prospect for IDS does not look good, and experts call on the military to acquire Oyashio-class submarines," the Naval Command released the following explanation today (23):
1. The media reports have not been verified as they were reported willfully, while the content is completely inconsistent with the facts. Therefore, the Command expresses much regret over the report.
2. The overall planning and signing of system integration regarding the IDS case have been completed, and they have been properly conducted according to the scheduled timeline.
3. The Command will uphold a prudent and rigorous attitude and risk management to conduct the IDS project as it continues to facilitate the task in accordance with the law and schedule under the supervision of the Legislative Yuan and Control Yuan plan. Therefore, the Command calls on the media to exercise self-discipline and self-respect and not to report irresponsibly in order to prevent confusion for the public.
