Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports that "Chinese fishermen went deep into Wuqiu, and locals are worried about a potential gap in national defense" (April 2, 2021)

In response to media report that "Chinese fishermen went deep into Wuqiu, and locals are worried about a potential gap in national defense", Marine Corps Command states today (2nd) that the content of the report is untrue, and clarifies as follows:

  1. During patrol by Wuqiu Islands Garrison Command of the Navy, it had found mainland Chinese smugglers who landed on the island in real time, immediately rounded them up for investigation, and reported to the Coast Guard Administration, OAC, and local police. These fishermen were then taken into police custody.
  2. Outer-island garrison forces of the Navy are working hard to prepare its combat readiness, keep up their posts, and maintain close contacts and cooperation with marine patrol authorities and local police to jointly uphold overall security of the defense area.
