Army Command issues a press release explaining reports that "the 2nd Combatant Command assisted in the rescue and salvage mission of the derailed Taroko Express 408"

In response to the derailment of the Taroko Express No. 408 of Taiwan Railways in the vicinity of Qingshui Tunnel at Xiulin Township, Hualien County this morning (2nd), 2nd Combatant Command received notification from the local fire brigade and dispatched troops and equipment immediately to help with rescue and salvage operations. Combatant Command rushed to the site and completed set-up for the forward command post. It will continue to work alongside the county government in search and rescue missions.
2nd Combatant Command pointed out that a total of 57 officers and soldiers, 4 ambulances, 2 medium tactical vehicles, 1 light tactical wheel vehicle, and 1 illumination tail vehicle were sent to the scene to assist with the rescue mission by 12:30. Furthermore, Command will see to the needs of on-site rescue, and continue to send out additional troops and equipment as needed.
