Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports stating that "accidental target shooting has ended in disaster, and a fire was found to have spread at the Kaohsiung compound of the Marine Corps" (March 16, 2021)

In response to media reports that "accidental target shooting has ended in disaster, and a fire was found to have spread at the Kaohsiung compound of the Marine Corps", Marine Corps Command points out today (16th) that weeds were found burning in surrounding areas of the Shoushan camp at 1240. Due to strong winds and a fear of the fire spreading, the Marine Corps immediately called Gushan Fire Brigade for support. The fire was put out at 1500. Afterwards, it was discovered that about 0.15 hectares was rampant with fire, but thankfully no damage was found to equipment or harm to personnel. Right now, the Corps has requested the police and fire-fighting brigade to assist with an investigation into the cause of the fire.
