Press release by NCSIST regarding the crash of Teng Yun, a UAV, Taitung
The National Chung Shan Institute of Science & Technology (“NCSIST”) hereby makes the following statement regarding the crash of the Teng Yun, also known as the “Cloud Rider”, which is an indigenously developed unmanned aerial vehicle (“UAV”).
The said UAV performed its routine training at Taitung Air Base earlier this afternoon. Due to system anomaly occurring at 18:33, the flight made an emergency landing at the Taitung Forest Park in accordance with standard operation procedures, leaving damage to the flight body as a result of contact with trees yet no casualties. The scene was immediately blocked by the police. Engineering personnel of the NSCIST promptly made it to the scene and assisted with clearing up the debris and documenting with photography for further analysis.
A prototype in its initial stage of development, the aircraft is charged with carrying out ad hoc training operations. The incident has no impact on the ongoing UAV R & D project. Continued public support for national defense autonomy and indigenous development is encouraged.
