The Ministry of National Defense issues a press release on the sale of a Field Information Communications System (FICS) from the US (December 8, 2020)
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (8th) that the US government "notified Congress" of a US arms sale to Taiwan of a "Field Information Communications System" (FICS) on December 7th, Eastern Time. After completing the "notifying Congress" stage, the sale is expected to go through within one month.
The MND points out that the United States has continued to make efforts to comply with the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) and Six Assurances (Six Assurances) after previous US arms sales pertaining to five categories of weapons for Taiwan. All of these arms are considered defensive weapons for our needs, and they can strengthen our information and communication capabilities and help build up our defense. The MND expresses its gratitude to the US for its decision to sell these arms.
The MND emphasizes that the arms sales show the US' unfaltering commitment in assisting our country to strengthen its overall defense capabilities. As such, Taiwan and the United States will continue to consolidate their security partnership to sustain peace and stability around the Taiwan Strait.
