Air Force Command issues a press release in response to media reports that "a pilot colonel lost contact, and it comes with great shock that the chief of the crew from the same squadron is reported to have taken his own life."

In response to media reports that "the chief of a crew from the Air Force took his own life", Air Force Command stated today (22nd) that a sergeant major, named Huang and affiliated with Hualien Base, attempted to commit suicide at the camp this evening. When unit officers and soldiers discovered the sergeant major, he was immediately sent to Hualien Armed Forces General Hospital urgent medical treatment, but was later pronounced dead.

Air Force Command points out that Sergeant Major Huang was responsible for ground equipment and had nothing to do with the plane crash. Command urges the public not to speculate. In addition, Command has also assigned cadres to accompany and assist Huang’s family members through this difficult time, and work with the Prosecution to clarify the series of events. Furthermore, Command requests each and every unit to strengthen publicity and its respect for life, education, and psychological counseling so this tragic event does not happen again.
