In response to media reports that "a soldier suddenly fainted, and has turned into a Persistent Vegetative State (PVS) after being sent to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. The family is questioning if the Command delayed in sending him for medical treatment," Air Force Command stated today (16th) that the report is not accurate, and has clarified the situation as follows:
- The family of soldier Su believes that the unit was negligent in following medical procedures and has filed a criminal complaint with the Taiwan Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office. The unit has transferred all the information it has about the soldier and his medical treatment at the camp to the prosecution for investigation. After the prosecution conducted its investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office believes that the cadres dealt with the situation as soon as they could. Furthermore, the cadres drove the soldier to the hospital themselves, rather than waiting for an ambulance, as the camp is located in a rather remote area and it would have been quicker to go there directly. The Office therefore believes there was no delay in medical treatment. As such, the Office has put forth a non-indictment act for the case.
- The Command expresses its deepest regret after hearing about the soldier’s condition and offers its full support and assistance to the family in this medical matter.
