The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release regarding the media coverage titled “Is the US likely to sell offensive weapons to Taiwan to counter China?”

With regard to the media coverage titled “Is the US likely to sell offensive weapons to Taiwan to counter China,” the Ministry of National Defense stated on September 30 that the US has been selling Taiwan defensive weapons in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Reassurances to ensure Taiwan’s sufficient defense capabilities in response to regional dynamism. Some media outlets may have clearly misinterpreted the US stance.

The MND said that any decision of arms procurement from the US is made out of defense concerns in response to potential threat. The US-Taiwan bilateral partnership will continue to be reinforced in hopes of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
