Regarding the media coverages titled “AIT sent a letter demanding payment;” and “Over-spending on military maintenance led to more than ten billion NT overdue! Balance of bidding tender went to maintenance & overhaul,” the Ministry of National Defense dismissed such statements saying they were sheer speculation and had no merit whatsoever.

  1. The Air Force has always kept its communication open with the US. The MND has never received any letter from the American Institute in Taiwan (“AIT”) demanding payment for overdue maintenance & overhaul charges.

  1. Some of the fighter jets have been middle-aged. Due to bleaker enemy threat, the demand for ad hoc flight maintenance & overhaul parts and components has increased at a staggering pace, which, however, cannot be satisfied by the approved annual budget. The MND has planned on boosting the budget for such requirements since 2021 in order to keep the fighter jets in shape in preparation for the unexpected.

  1. The MND has always been answerable to the Air Force’s maintenance and overhaul requirements. As of this moment, all fighter jets meet availability standards to keep our air safe.
