The Navy Command Headquarters issued a press release regarding the media coverage “Rumors spread about useless naval fleet. Indigenous frigate project faces potential suspension” September 7, 2020
Regarding the press coverage titled “Rumors spread about useless naval fleet. Indigenous frigate project faces potential suspension,” the Navy Command Headquarters released the following statement today.
-
The Navy always develops its readiness based on enemy intelligence and comprehensive coordination of all armed forces, which are factors taken into consideration when devising and adjusting its manpower and arms. The statement by the media outlet that the Navy fleet may be negligible does not coincide with the fact.
-
The Navy stands for the policy of indigenously built vessels. The Second Phase of the new generation missile frigate construction has been planned to be executed between 2019 and 2026. Based on the current progress of the CSIST project, a preliminary warfare evaluation is scheduled for September, 2020, with follow-up plan to be conducted based on evaluation results. Once the requirements by the Navy are met, construction will then kick off. The project is still being carried out as planned, which differs from the media coverage.
-
The Navy will continue to promote all construction projects to prepare its naval combat and defense readiness. Support from the public is anticipated.
