The Navy Command Headquarters issued a press release regarding the media coverage titled “Construction project of Micro-class Missile Assault Boat halted” September 7, 2020

In response to the media coverage titled “Construction project of Micro-class Missile Assault Boat halted,” the Navy Command Headquarters said today that the media coverage is sheer speculation and made the following comments:

  1. Pursuant to the comments on the budget review by the Legislative Yuan in 2019, the project will only be launched upon approval by the legislative body, provided the boat design has been completed in accordance with the contract and the simulation platform has been successfully tested.

  1. The intended budget for the year of 2021 totals NT$1,231,341,000. The boat design and the simulation platform testing report were just completed in September, 2020, which still needs to be scrutinized and carefully evaluated, making it impossible to carry out the planned budget for 2021. To minimize the risk, a budget of NT$11,221,000 has been planned. The media coverage does not coincide with the fact.

  1. The Navy is currently conducting meticulous evaluation of the design and simulation platform testing completed by the National Chung Shan Institute of Science & Technology and the Navy Shipbuilding Development Center. The evaluation results will be delivered and briefed to the Legislative Yuan. The Navy will then react accordingly based their resolution. No further media speculation is necessary.
