Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports stating that "construction work of the Indigenous Defense Submarine (IDS) has been postponed, and the director of the Naval Shipbuilding Development Center has resigned" (November 2, 2

In response to media reports that "construction work of the Indigenous Defense Submarine has been postponed, and the director of the Naval Shipbuilding Development Center has resigned," Navy Command Headquarters of the MND said today (2nd) that this report was completely fictitious and inconsistent with the facts, and elaborated as follows:

1. The IDS project is currently proceeding as planned, and the China Ship Building Corporation (CSBC) of Taiwan had, under committee supervision of Legislative and Control Yuan, held a commencement ceremony in November as intended.

2. Related media reports that Rear Admiral Shao Wei-yang, Director of the Naval Shipbuilding Development Center, had resigned are completely untrue. As a matter of fact, Director Shao is a loyal and selfless military serviceman, and has performed his duties well throughout his career. He is currently heavily invested in the IDS project, and is continuing his best work without any intention of resignation. These media reports cannot be viewed as anything but unfair to the Director.

3. The Command urges the media to do their best to verify information before they publish, and refrain from speculating or exaggerating reports, and from misleading the public. The Armed Forces will continue to exercise prudent diligence and have a rigorous attitude to manage risks, complete the construction of the submarine according to schedule and to the desired quality, and appeal for support from our nationals.
