The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release explaining "the annual general budget of the central government " (August 13, 2020)
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (13) that the annual general budge of the central government for 2021 was approved by the Executive Yuan, and the MND budget is NT$366.8 billion, an increase of NT$15.6 billion from that of the statutory budget for 2020. As found, the growth is a 4.44% increase (compared to 2020, it has increased by NT$8.8 billion, or a growth of 2.46%). Furthermore, the special budget for purchasing new fighter aircraft is NT$29 billion, and the fund budget is NT$57.6 billion, for an overall budget of NT$453.4 billion, accounting for 2.36% of the GDP.
The MND pointed out that the budget received has moderately increased for operation maintenance and military investment in light of regional situations and enemy threats, in addition to meeting the spending of legal obligations towards personnel maintenance. Furthermore, it should focus on strengthening the readiness and availability of primary combat equipment, speed up the development of "asymmetric combat capability," and profoundly build up "indigenous national defense" capacity and others to establish the solid national defense force and demonstrate our self-defense determination.
The MND further stated that the steady growth of the national defense budget will benefit the implementation of various military build-up and preparation tasks, achieve the goals of the overall national defense policy, and ensure national security and regional peace and stability.
