The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release stating that "a lieutenant colonel officer was intercepted for trying to sell information to the mainland" (August 12, 2020)

In response to the media report that "a lieutenant colonel officer was intercepted for trying to sell information to the mainland", the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (12) that the case is being jointly investigated by the MND and national security authority, and the investigation will be directed by the prosecutors’ office. Since the case was discovered in time, the leakage of classified secrets was successfully prevented, while related damage control has been completed under the consideration of "predicting the enemy upon greater tolerance" and "safety."

The MND pointed out that the entire case has now been placed under the judicial process. Based on the principle of non-disclosure of investigations, the MND will not comment on the case.

The MND emphasized that measures of CCP infiltration are constantly changing and pervasive. In the future, it will continue to adopt joint defense mechanisms and various preventive measures to actively counteract their efforts, persist in strengthening personnel assessment, and impose strict safeguard measures on related confidential information to ensure overall national security.
