The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release noting that "Typhoon Megkhla is approaching, and all servicemen of the Armed Forces are fully prepared to prevent disasters"
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (10) that since Typhoon Megkhla is approaching Taiwan, the MND, each of the military commands, and the first and fourth battle area and Kinmen Defense Command have all completed first-level opening in coordination with the Central Emergency Operation Center (CEOC). Furthermore, it will fully assist local governments in implementing various disaster prevention and preparation work.
According to the MND, the entire force currently on standby amounts to about 35,000 people, alongside with AAV7 amphibious assault vehicles, rubber boats, pumps, and other disaster prevention equipment, totaling 1,469 vehicles (cars) of 26 categories based on the disaster prevention concept of "advanced deployment, pre-positioned forces, and ready-to-rescue." With men and devices being refurbished, they will be dispatched with pre-positioned forces and equipment for immediate rescue to potentially disastrous and low-lying areas. In addition, hospitals of the Armed Forces are organized with emergency medical teams so that they can provide medical support at any time.
The MND emphasized that the Armed Forces will continue to closely monitor follow-up developments of the typhoon and carry out every preparation against typhoons and for disaster prevention and rescue so as to protect our homeland and ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.
