The Naval Command issued a press release explaining the "launch of the first naval fast mine-laying boat and keel-laying ceremony for the second boat" (August 4, 2020)
The Navy and Lung Teh Shipbuilding Company Limited held the "launch of the first naval fast mine-laying boat and keel-laying ceremony for the second boat" at the No. 5 yard of Long Teh Shipbuilding this morning (4). The ceremony was jointly host by Admiral Liu Chih-pin, naval commander, and Huang Shou-zhen, director of Long Teh Shipbuilding Company.
The naval "fast mine-laying boat" was prepared by Navy construction based on the enemy's threats and combat needs, in combination with current mine-laying operations plan, in order to strengthen retaliation against the threat of crossing by enemy vessels, as well as create a favorable situation for joint defense operations.
The project case was concluded and signed by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) and Lung Teh Shipbuilding Company on November 26, 2018. According to the construction schedule, the launch of the first boat and keel-laying ceremony for the second boat will be carried out on August 4, 2020. Based on the timeline, the project will be carried out as scheduled with the designated quality and budget. Overall, it is estimated that the delivery of four boats with the case will be completed by the end of 2021. Furthermore, the Navy should continue to adhere to a prudent and rigorous attitude and risk management to implement the policy of indigenous defense vessels and call for the support of the nationals.
