The Army Command Headquarters said today on July 16th that an OH-58D observation helicopter affiliated with Brigade 601 of the Aviation and Special Forces Command numbered 616 crashed at Hsinchu Air Force Base for unknown reason when returning from its combat preparation mission in the third combat area. The pilot---Major Ren-Zhuan Jian, Class 2011—and the co-pilot—Captain Jia-Long Gao, Class 2015—were both killed despite immediate rescue efforts.
The Army Command Headquarters said with grief that it has formed a special task force composed of supervisors in response to the tragedy to assist the bereaved family with the funeral logistics and compensation. The model of helicopter has been ordered to suspend its service and was subjected to further inspection. The reason for the crash is being investigated.
