The Ministry of National Defense issued a press release regarding the media coverage titled “Director of Engineering & Construction (Armaments Bureau) accused of taking an enormous bribe”
In response to the media coverage titled “Director of Engineering & Construction (Armaments Bureau) accused of taking an enormous bribe,” the Ministry of National Defense stated today on July 14th that:
1. The Division of Engineering & Construction is responsible for the review of policy planning of the said construction project. The bidding process for the project as well as contracting and inspections are being conducted by the involved military—in the said case, the Air Force. The project progresses as planned.
2. The MND will respond to investigation requests vis-à-vis military construction projects when deemed necessary by local district attorney. It is worth noting that the Division of Engineering & Construction is not in charge of bidding, contracting and inspections. Director Zhang already reported to the local district attorney’s office at their request. Investigation is underway and cannot be disclosed. Speculation is not advised.
3. The MND will keep on adhering to the rule of law and will do everything to cooperate with all investigation requirements to serve justice. No mercy will be spared for involved active duty personnel in hopes of preventing and eliminating corruption.
