The Naval Command Center issued a press release on the media coverage titled “Yang, military instructor affiliated with CSTC, attempted suicide” (July 5, 2020)
In response to the media coverage of the suicidal attempt by Yang, military instructor affiliated with Combat Skills Training Center (“CSTC”), an affiliated organization of the Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command, the Navy Command Headquarters said on July 5 that Yang was a former frogman and had been serving as a combat diver instructor for 7 years. The experienced combat officer was extremely dedicated to his teaching duty and demanded nothing but the best from himself. According to interviews with his colleagues, subordinates, superiors, and all supervisors having worked with him, it can be concluded that Yang was an outstanding military instructor characterized by remarkable dedications and sense of responsibility. His fellows said that Yang was deeply frustrated about and apologetic for the incident of submerged military personnel. It can be inferred from all these factors that the tragedy occurred due to Yang’s strong remorse, which can be attributed to his superior sense of responsibility and esteem.
Yang was an outstanding military instructor who dedicated his expertise to training future combat divers, according to the Navy Command Headquarters. The Navy would like to express its deepest condolences for the loss of the great officer and will do everything to assist the bereaved family with the funeral and compensation, while it will introduce more suicide prevention courses and mechanisms within the Navy to prevent such tragedy from happening.
