The Navy Command Headquarters issued a press release on the death of staff sergeant Zhi-rong Chen, who was submerged after a boat capsized in the joint landing combat drill. (July 5, 2020)
The Navy Command Headquarters said on the 5th of July that staff sergeant Zhi-rong Chen, who took part in the joint landing combat drill on the 3rd and was accidentally submerged in the ocean, passed away in the Armed Forces General Hospital (Zuoying Branch) despite dedicated efforts of intensive care.
The Navy Command Headquarters said that staff sergeant Zhi-rong Chen and Private first class Bo-yu Cai dedicated their lives to the country when performing their duties. Their heroic deeds will be commemorated as a role model in the ROC military as well as the Marine Corps. The Ministry of National Defense expressed its deepest condolences with grievance to the bereaved families and promised to assist with their funerals, pension and bereavement allowance and posthumous rank promotion in honor of the killed officer and soldier.
