The Air Force Command Headquarters issued a press release to elaborates on the incident “a soldier in the air force was lighted with fire in a prank and yet Master Sergeant refuses to call an ambulance” (Time: 16:20, August 15th, 2018)
The Air Force Command Headquarters elaborates today (15th) on the media coverage of “a soldier in the air force was lighted with fire in a prank and yet Master Sergeant refuses to call an ambulance” and states that the incident occurred in Tainan Air Base on Jan. 19th, 2018, where waste paper was burned but not by following proper “destruction by water” procedures; as a result, a soldier whose last name is Zhu was burned accidentally. In addition, the incident was not followed by proper procedures and the victim was taken to hospital in a civilian car. Reviews and punishments have been carried out on relevant personnel.
The Air Force Command Headquarters further says that the victim’s family members have been contacted immediately when the victim was hospitalized. The deputy leader of the unit also accompanied the victim’s parents to deal with matters at the hospital, gave apologies, and explained the procedures to be done after the incident. Reconciliation was achieved between the victim and the military on June 8th after solider Zhu accepted apologies. The Command Headquarters is deeply sorry for the harms caused its air force members and will continue to send staffs care for the soldier. In addition, the Command Headquarters asks all units to carry out tasks according to operation procedures and steps to avoid such incidents from happening again.
