The Ministry of National Defense issued press release to explain “The unveiling ceremony of the Institute for National Defense and Security Research was held today” (May 1st, 2018)

The unveiling ceremony of the “Institute for National Defense and Security Research” (set up by the Ministry of National Defense) was held at May 1st at the former site of the Ministry of National Defense, and famous international think tanks such as Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) delivered congratulations messages. Currently, Taiwan is confronting with complex security challenges and the institute aims to recruit outstanding strategic and military research personnel to improve the momentum of ROC national defense research and gradually build global reputation from the perspective of national strategy.

Due to the need of responding with the challenge of strategical environment and national defense revolution, the Ministry of National Defense referred with the development experience of key think tanks of various countries to build the institute (as a foundation established from government donation) which is the only national level national defense think tank, dedicated to researches related to national safety, regional situations, PRC politics and military situation and interact with international think tanks.

The first chairman and executive of the institute are served by former Minister of the Ministry of National Defense Feng Shi-kuan and former Deputy Minister of Mainland Affairs Council Dr. Lin Cheng-yi respectively, currently 7 institutes (such as national defense policy) and 1 center are set up, and personnel will fill up to full strength.

Secretary-general to the President Chen Chu, Secretary-General of the National Security Council Lee Ta-wei, Minister of State Lo Ping-cheng, Minister of the Ministry of National Defense Yen Te-fa, Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wu Chao-hsieh, Deputy Minister of Mainland Affairs Council Chang Tien-chin, Legislators Wang Ting-yu and Lu Xun-ling and domestic/foreign scholars and experts also attended the event today.
