II. Information about “National Senior High School Creative Patriotic Songs Competition”:
In order to promote civil national defense education, the Ministry of National Defense cooperated with the Ministry of Education to hold “National Senior High School Creative Patriotic Songs Competition” on the eve of the Youth Day with the theme of “Sing the music of victory!”, and 10 schools participated in the competition, including Yu Da High School of Commerce and Home Economics, Song Shan High School of Commerce and Home Economics (Taipei City), Juang Jing Vocational High School, Nan Chiang Industrial & Commercial Senior High School (New Taipei City), Hsinchu Kuang-Fu High School, Youth Senior High School, Taichung Home Economics and Commercial High School (Taichung City), National Tseng-Wen Senior Home Economic & Commercial Vocational High School, National Xinying Industrial Vocational High School (Tainan City) and Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School. During the event, the exemplary band of the Ministry of National Defense and honor guard of three arm forces also perform together, and 6 helicopters of the ROC Army Aviation and Special Forces Command also run overhead and the Military Police Special Services Company perform combat skill exercise. Po-ai campus of the Ministry of National Defense also open for civils to visit the first floor of the armed forces museum, and the welcome plaza also exhibit 1 AH-64E Apache attack helicopter and 1 AH-1W Cobra helicopter, and arrange interactive booths such as civil national defense, human resources recruitment and carnival, to enhance the opportunity for civil members to experience national defense affairs and practice civil national defense education.
The Ministry of National Defense held press conference today and the Director of Cultural and Psychological Warfare Section Major General Chen Yu-Lin announced issues related to the competition. At the press conference, student representatives of participating schools, the exemplary band of the Ministry of National Defense and honor guard of three arm forces, the Military Police Special Services Company and soldiers of ROC Army Aviation and Special Forces Command attended and played the promotional video of the Creative Patriotic Songs Competition, and the student representatives of participating schools sing the designated song of the competition “We Stand on the Pacific Ocean”. The song is the promotional military song of the national army in 2014, the song is selected by the organizer in order to emphasize the patriotism of young people remain the same no matter how international situation changes.
The competition rule is to sing by group and the each team can be constituted by 30-60 (inclusive) people. The designated song of the competition is “We Stand on the Pacific Ocean”, and the optional song can be selected from ten military songs of “Defend the Steel Army” issued by the Ministry of National Defense. The singing method is unlimited, the theme is civil national defense, and the spirit and characteristics of the school can be combined, and creative team call can be added with band and honor guard or props to interpret patriotic songs by the creative idea and inspiration of students and show their vitality.
The reviewer of the competition are 5 experts invited by the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Education with expertise in areas of music, performing arts, modeling and creative arts. The scoring items including 5 items: song singing, formation of the team, costume display, morale, and command ability. The awards including $100,000 NT Dollars and a trophy for the champion; $80,000 NT Dollars and a trophy for the runner-up; $60,000 NT Dollars and a trophy for the third place winner; and 7 excellence awards with $30,000 NT Dollars and a trophy. In addition, the Ministry of National Defense will award every participating schools and students with 1 certificate for each student.
The Ministry of National Defense stated that patriotic songs aim to encourage morale and show patriotism. The “National Senior High School Creative Patriotic Songs Competition” is held for the first time in this year with 3 combat skill exercise in correspond with the event, and the armed forces museum in the first floor of the Po-ai campus also open for visit and two helicopters are exhibited in the welcome plaza and interactive booths and carnival are also set. And special thanks to the Ministry of Education to cooperate to hold the event, we hope to improve the contact and positive interaction with citizens, and let them know the preparing of the national army for combat and thus support for the administration of the national defense and inspire the consensus of national defense of citizens. We welcome people to actively participate the event and refuel for students in the competition!
At the day of the event, as the space of the Bo-ai camp is limited, the public is not allowed to drive into the campus, and we recommend visitors to bring ROC identification documents for verification and make good use of public transportations like bus and MRT, or take shuttle bus of the Ministry of National Defense.
