The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (Mar. 29) that the United States held a delivery ceremony of "F-16C/D Block 70 fighter aircrafts" of the Republic of China Air Force on March 28, Eastern Standard Time (EST). The Ambassador Alexander Tah-ray Yui, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, and Mr. Po Horng-Huei Alex, Deputy Minister of MND Military Policies, have attended this ceremony on behalf of our country.
This military purchase of the "F-16C/D Block 70 fighter aircrafts" was in response to enemy threats and urgent national defense needs. The MND allocated a special budget according to the Special Act for New Fighters Acquisition to acquire 66 new fighter aircrafts from the United States to strengthen the Air Force's combat capabilities and enhance joint operational effectiveness. The U.S. invitation for our participation in the delivery ceremony of fighter aircrafts not only showcased the production and manufacturing results but also highlighted the U.S. government's continued commitment to assisting Taiwan in enhancing its self-defense capabilities according to the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.
The MND expressed gratitude to the related organizations such as the United States Department of State, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the United States Air Force, and Lockheed Martin, for their strong support in ensuring the smooth conduct of this event. The MND will continue to collaborate with the U.S. through the security cooperation mechanism between both parties to ensure the successful production and delivery of the new fighter aircrafts, with the goal of completing the delivery by the end of 2026.
