MND Issues Statement on PLA’s Announcement of 7 Restricted Airspace Zones

MND News Report
Date: 12:20, December 9, 2024

On December 9, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated that in response to the PLA’s announcement of seven airspace restriction zones in the airspace east of Zhejiang and Fujian from December 9 to 11, the MND established a response center this morning and instructed all units to closely observe enemy units while maintaining high alert.

The MND stated that its ISR operations have enabled it to closely track China Coast Guard (CCG) ships entering the western Pacific as well as ship formations of the PLA Eastern, Northern, and Southern Theater Command entering the waters surrounding Taiwan. In response to PLA long-range naval and air missions, the ROC military is coordinating with the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) by closely monitoring PLA activities.

In light of PLA military activities, the MND has initiated military drills at tactical positions, carried out according to the level of enemy threat and weather conditions. Forces on offshore islands were in a state of heightened alert and worked closely with CGA units to effectively counter CCG activities.

The MND has stressed that any unilateral, irrational, or provocative actions could severely destabilize the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific - an outcome the international community seeks to avoid. The PLA’s recent activity near Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and the ROC has only heightened risk factors in the region. In the face of escalation, the ROC military strictly adheres to the principles of not escalating tensions and not inciting conflict. The ROC military will carefully respond to all forms of grey zone incursions and remains confident and resolute in its abilities to defend the nation.
