The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (6th) that the Political War Bureau had received an unsolicited report from officers and soldiers in July 2023 that a discharged private first class, whose surname is Chan, and others were induced to recruit current and retired ex-servicemen to develop an organizational network. These informed sources had reported to the National Security Bureau (NSB), the Integrated Investigation Bureau, MP Command, and other national security teams to implement a special-event investigation. In August 2024, these authorities reported to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office to direct the investigation, working together to crack down on the illegal organization.
The MND explained that the case was investigated and then prosecuted for separate crimes involving violations of the National Security Law and Criminal Law after the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office obtained and submitted evidence. The case is now in the judicial process. Based on the principle of not disclosing information pertinent to investigations, the MND will not comment any further on the details of the case.
The MND emphasized that infiltration campaigns by Communist China against us have never stopped in view of the current security situation, and such examples as the case above must be condemned by our nationals. In addition, to actively prevent enemy espionage activities, the Armed Forces will also continue to carry out counter-intelligence education, expand national security awareness among the general public, and work closely with national security teams as a collaborative defense approach to enhance national security.
