MND Issues Statement on RTX Repayment of NTD5.2 billion to Taiwan’s National Treasury Over Fraudulent Arms Sale

MND News Report
Date: 18:00, November 20, 2024

On November 20, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated that RTX (formerly known as Raytheon Technologies Corporation) had defrauded the US government by engaging in price gouging and overcharging Taiwan in its arms sales. RTX was recently charged by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) for defrauding the US government and later agreed to enter deferred prosecution agreements. RTX was ordered by the DOJ to refund Taiwan. On November 19, RTX converted and wired NT$5,201,163,236 to Taiwan’s national treasury.

The MND stressed that democratic nations share a common commitment to ensuring compliance and fighting corruption when it comes to arms sales. In light of RTX, the MND has requested the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency and related security support departments to investigate other cases to protect the interests of Taiwan’s arms sales.
