MND Issues Statement on the Latest Assignment of General Officers

On November 13, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated the President had approved the following appointments of general officers:
I. Chief of Air Force Gen. Liu Jen-yuan will be appointed as a presidential strategic advisor. Vice Chief of the General Staff (Executive) Gen. Cheng Jung-feng will be appointed as the new Chief of Air Force. Vice Chief of Air Force Lt. Gen. Huang Chih-wei will be appointed as the new Vice Chief of the General Staff (Executive) and be promoted to General, Second-Class.
II. Vice Chief of Air Force Lt. Gen. Huang Chih-wei graduated from the ROC Air Force Academy Class of 1987 and USAF Air War College Class of 2010. He had previously served as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force Command Headquarters, Combatant Commander of the Air Combat Command, and Vice Chief of Air Force, thereby making him most suitable in terms of both academic qualifications and experience. During his tenure, Lt. Gen. Huang was responsible for providing guidance for military strategies and combat preparations. Recognizing his efforts, Lt. Gen. Huang will be appointed as the new Vice Chief of the General Staff (Executive), where he will continue to advance air force buildup and enhance combat preparations by leveraging his extensive experience.
III. The aforementioned appointments will be effective on November 14, 2024.
The MND states that personnel assignments are conducted in accordance with the Act of Assignment for Officers and Non-commissioned Officers of the Armed Forces. Personnel are selected and recommended based on procedures that take into account the nature of the position, the needs of the mission, and the experience of the personnel.
The MND further noted that Chief of Air Force Gen. Liu Jen-yuan has served in the ROCAF for over three decades, exemplifying the ROCAF’s values of loyalty and bravery. Gen. Liu has been eager to take action by advancing combat training missions, and his efforts have contributed significantly to the nation’s air defense. Vice Chief of the General Staff (Executive) Gen. Cheng Jung-feng will succeed Gen. Liu as the Chief of the Air Force and will continue his efforts to strengthen the ROCAF’s combat capabilities, ensuring that it can effectively respond to any hostile threat.
