In preparation for the possible impact by Typhoon Usagi on Taiwan’s Southeastern and Southern regions, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) held the ROC Armed Forces Emergency Operations Center overview meeting today, requesting all forces to closely track the typhoon’s activity and areas that may be at risk. The MND also requested all forces to make thorough preparations to minimize all possible damages.
The MND stated that it has cooperated with the Central Emergency Operation Center in completing Level-1 preparations. The other TOs (tactical operations) will assist local governments in completing disaster preparedness efforts.
The MND has mobilized over 30,000 members of the armed forces and prepared over 3,300 pieces of equipment, including AAV7 Amphibious Assault Vehicles, RHIBs, and 42 other types of equipment. Forces have already been deployed in advance to risk-prone areas as well as low-lying areas. In addition, military hospitals have organized medical teams to provide medical assistance if needed.
The MND has announced that it will continue to track Typhoon Usagi’s path, and finalize disaster prevention and relief efforts while ensuring the safety of its personnel. The ROC military is committed to protecting the lives and properties of its citizens.
