In response to media reports of concerns about access control to the Institute of National Defense and Security Research, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) has explained the following:
1. The Institute of National Defense and Security Research is a think-tank so communication with the general public is considered part of its normal operation. The Institute has, however, stipulated strict requirements for its researchers; they may not study confidential matters that involve national defense and security.
2. Since the Institute of National Defense and Security Research is located within a military compound, visitors wishing to access the facility are required to undergo checks in advance. There are restrictions for visitors on access routes as well as other areas, and all visitors must be accompanied by institute personnel throughout the entirety of their visit.
3. The MND has also asked the Institute of National Defense and Security Research to look into the issue and see if there are any areas for review and improvement to ensure interested parties cannot deliberately conceal their identity, and to protect the institute from potential infiltration and sabotage by the CCP.
