Press release of the Ministry of National Defense

Time: November 28, 2023 at 10:10

The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (28th) that the High Prosecutors Office received reports of espionage from the MND and National Security units, prompting the Prosecutors Office to open a joint counter-intelligence investigation into cases that involve a number of current and retired military personnel with respect to the infringement of national security interests. After rigorous evidence collection and damage control, the MND officially issued a document to request the judicial authorities to look into a prosecution inquiry. First-class privates Lu and Wu were among the suspects, lured by the promise of gains, before defecting to the CCP. The MND has thus listed them in the case as an illustration to strengthen counter-enemy infiltration education.

The MND emphasizes that the CCP has been all-pervasive regarding intelligence collection of our country. The Armed Forces shall continuously implement security education and strengthen security vigilance. The investigation further unveiled that most of the CCP espionage cases in recent years have been proactively reported by our officers and soldiers, and, as such, the Armed Forces shall persistently and strictly inspect the confidentiality of information, aim to detect suspicious signs in advance, adhere to the cooperation model, and engage in mutual assistance with the national security team to protect and ensure prevention capabilities to safeguard the overall security of our Armed Forces.
