In response to media reports that indigenous submarines are "likely to turn into iron coffins," the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (23rd) that the use of indecent language to describe tanks, submarines, and other weapons and equipment may exert a rather negative impact on morale and the image of the Armed Forces. The MND asks the general public to discuss issues of national defense and security logically and reasonably, and support military preparations and build-up of the Armed Forces.
The MND emphasized that, as noted by Minister Chiu Kuo-Cheng, "indigenous submarines are something outstanding and noteworthy", and any unilateral remarks or farfetched analogies will only cause unnecessary setbacks and obstacles. At present, the entire case has entered the judicial investigation stage, and the MND will work with investigation institutes to clarify the case. The MND will also continue to control the follow-up evaluation of the project according to the planned timeline to achieve its goals as scheduled.
