In response to media reports that "the budget of the Medical Affairs Bureau has increased, hinting at wartime preparations" and other reports, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) explained as follows:

  1. The Medical Affairs Bureau (MAB) compiled a military investment plan for "fundamental medical strength and equipment build-up" for its affiliated hospitals, which will be implemented from 2024 to 2026. The total budget is NT$980 million. The budget for 2024 as appropriated is set at NT$ 257 million.
  2. The purpose of this build-up project is for each military hospital to replace and update their medical equipment based on five-year military investment needs and in line with the service life of medical equipment. This is part of regular maintenance processes, and mirrors practice in other countries to comprehensively strengthen the medical and health capacity of military medical institutes. The MND urges the general public not to exaggerate or speculate in reports.
