In response to the media reports that a US destroyer and a Canadian frigate were deliberately provoked at close range while passing through the Taiwan Strait yesterday, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (4th) that the Armed Forces were fully aware of the situation and dispatched appropriate naval and air forces for monitoring to ensure the security and stability of the Taiwan Strait.
The MND emphasized that the safeguarding of peace, stability, and development of the Taiwan Strait and wider region is a shared responsibility of free and democratic countries around the world. As such, any measures to increase tension and danger will not be conductive to regional security. The MND also calls on the CCP authorities to respect the right to freedom of navigation, avoid excessively provocative actions, and jointly help maintain the peace, stability, and security of the region.
